PIET MONDRIAN
Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Mondrian, after 1906 Mondrian, was a Dutch painter. Mondrian was a contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group. Born: March 7, 1872, Amersfoort, Netherlands: Died: February 1, 1944, Manhattan, New York City, NY
From early on in my life Gary placed Piet Mondrian on a high pedestal and he has greatly affected my artwork. His desire for control of the imagery, structure, form and importantly color were and are the elements prominent in my work. Discovered much later and added are emotional express, communication and most importantly freedom of expression...no 'isms'.
Approaching this drawing became a close observation of his visage especially in the glasses and the odd placement of his hand and arm. I was unable to include the effect of Mondrian's art on my own work as I have done with many of the other artist portraits. Also included is one of his painting that has always been a favorite of mine at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
